On the 23rd of June 2016, the Hanoi University has officially launched the VOYAGE project, coordinated by AlmaLaurea and co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, to involve all the 2016 graduating students in the project activities.

Representatives of Italian businesses also joined the event to present the employment opportunities of European business in Vietnam as well as in Europe. As students from the Hanoi University are well-trained in the major languages used in the European Union such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, the VOYAGE project will be an important linkage that will open them the door to the EU labour market.

After the formal speeches, the VOYAGE researcher team leader, Dr. Hoang Gia Thu, Dean of Faculty, demonstrated the use of the VOYAGE platform for matching demand and supply of qualified labour. The graduating students explored the platform by establishing their login accounts and browsing the survey questionnaires right on their smart phones. A help desk person, with email, Facebook account and hotline information, was also introduced to the students as a contact point for further questions.

Following the Hanoi University, the other VOYAGE partner institutions, the National University of Arts and Education and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, will launch soon the VOYAGE project at their premises.

Voyage Project Kick Off, Bologna, January 11-12 2016

The kick off meeting of the Voyage Project - Opportunities for the young and graduates employability in Vietnam, took place in Bologna, on January 11-12 2016, with AlmaLaurea hosting more than 20 representatives from Vietnam Universities and business world, from the partner Universities of Barcellona, Minho and the Italian Partner University of Padua. The delegation  also saw the participation of institutional representatives from the 3 Vietnamese partner universities - the Vice Rector of Hanoi University Mr.Tran Quang Binh, the Rector of the National University of Art Education, Mr. Pham Le Hoa and the Vice-Rector of the Post and Telecommunication Institute Mr. Tran Quang and the Vice Chairman of the Management Board of Hanoi Park Center for Enterprice Support and Services.

The cooperation project, coordinated by AlmaLaurea, is funded by the European Erasmus+ programme for a total of 500 thousand Euros over a period of three years. Aim of the project is to set up, first time in Vietnam, the online database of Vietnamese graduates, inspired by AlmaLaurea model, with all the curricula of partner universities that will promote a  better matching between job demand and supply. Thanks to the set up of such tool, it will be possible for the Vietnamese Universities to carry out surveys on the graduates’ profile and design the methodology to run employment condition survey in Vietnam.

AlmaLaurea has the task of transferring its know how and skills to the Vietnamese partners and local staff at all levels (from ITS to researchers and secretariat Staff) thus allowing the capacity building for long term project maintenance and functioning.  Such results will be achieved thanks also to the best practices in employability and quality assurance provided by the European Partners of Barcelona, Minho and Padua.

The creation, thanks to the project, of modern and sustainable tools based on the provision of updated information for the enhancement of university-enterprises partnership, is highly needed in Vietnam where, the education system has seen important development in the last 10 years with the number of schools doubled and an increase state expenditure (World Bank, 2014) and,  as regard to higher education, a marked increase in the number of graduates (Vietnam Statistics Office, 2014). Yet, as in other part of the word, graduates are facing the dual problem of increasing youth unemployment and a mismatch between graduates’ skills and employers’ requirement often ascribed to the poor quality of education (ICEF, 2014,).
